The Bright Autumn Festival is a ten-day celebration of the autumn colours and local produce of Victoria’s Alpine High Country. There is a plethora of sights and events to take in during the festival.
The highlight is Gala Weekend, which includes a huge market, live music in the streets and a grand parade. Even the main streets of Bright are closed to traffic during the carnival. Do some shopping at the Bright Rotary Market from 9am to 1pm, then catch the Autumn Festival Parade from 1.45pm.
Children can enjoy the Kiddies Korner, while art buffs should check out the Bright Art Gallery’s Annual Art Exhibition.
The Wandi Nut Festival celebrates the rich harvest of Wandiligong, a small, semi-rural settlement of about 400 people. April and May is harvest time for walnuts, hazelnuts and chestnuts in orchards, along with heritage apples and juicy blackberries. There will be chestnut roasting, face painting and live music. Visitors can taste a variety of nut-based products, including chestnut hummus, chocolate hazelnut butter and chestnut gnocchi with walnut sauce.
At night, you won’t want to miss the Bright Brewery Bush dance. It’s a fun night of bush dancing and live music. Proceeds raised to go fund future Bright Autumn Festivals.
Throughout the festival, fourteen fabulous gardens are open and on display. They are the perfect place to enjoy the autumn colours and ornamental plantings. There are also some gardens filled with sustainable food sources.
Next year, the festival will run from Friday, 27 April to Sunday, 6 May, 2018.
