When you’re in Outback Queensland you can expect the weird, the wonderful, and the downright best of racing.

From yabbies, goats, pigs, sheep, and camels, there’s an extensive calendar of racing events waiting just for you.

Barcaldine Tree of Knowledge Festival

Date: 4-7 May, 2018

Mention goat racing in the city and they’ll probably think you’ve goat to be joking, but we kid you not!

Youngsters are just the right size for the racing carts, so bring the family!

Landsborough Flock Ewe Show

Date: 2 June, 2018

For an authentic outback-bred event look no further than the Landsborough Flock Ewe Show.

Held almost every year since 1962, it features sheep competitions, live entertainment, markets and of course, sheep races. 

Boulia Camel Races

Date: 20-22 July, 2018

There’re a few stops on the camel racing circuit, one of the most famous being the Boulia Camel Races which claims the longest camel race in Australia.

Mitchell Camel & Pig Races

Date: 25 August, 2018

The Mitchell Camel & Pig Races is exactly what you think it is – and more. The town puts on a big show with market stalls, entertainment, and even free camping.
 

The Windorah International Yabby Races

Date: 29 August, 2018

While the yabbies may not be international racers, it’s certainly a world-class event.

The street outside the Western Star Hotel in Windorah is the place to be, so saddle up your crawly crustacean!

The Birdsville Races

Dates: 1-2 September, 2018

No list of racing would be complete without the Melbourne Cup of the Outback, the Birdsville Races.

This gathering on the edge of the Simpson Desert draws thousands to the town of 100.
 

Ben’s Chicken Stampede

Dates: Many! 

We’ve found the answer to the age-old question, and can confirm that the chicken crossed the road to get to the pub in Winton.

Ben’s Chicken Stampede is as amusing as it sounds, hosted at the North Gregory Hotel.
