Gourmet food and spectacular vistas at Ocean View Estates

Just an hour’s drive from Brisbane and you’ll feel like you’re in another world.

Family-owned Ocean View Estates winery, brewery and restaurant makes a perfect day trip from the city.

Started by husband and wife team Thomas and Kate Honnef, the team has now expanded to include daughter Hannah (the brewer).

The drive

The beautiful drive out to Ocean View Estates will put you in a relaxed state of mind. Head out of the city towards Dayboro and watch the buildings give way to classic homes and rolling green hills.

The last part of the drive is quite windy as you ascend up Mount Mee Road, but the views are worth the twists and turns.

Winery and brewery

If you have time before your lunch reservation, pop into the tasting room to try a selection of wines and beer. Just make sure you have a designated driver!

Their Unwound Verdelho is fruity and bright, while the Wild Fermented Chardonnay is balanced and subtle.

If you prefer red wine, you can’t go wrong with the Summer Ruby, a soft and fruity red. Looking for a more full bodied wine? Try the Unwound Shiraz, made with grapes sourced from the Granite Belt.

The beers are just as unique, with brews made with wattle and chocolate.

Fine dining

Where Ocean View Estates really shines is the incredible restaurant, headed up by chef Tony Tierney.

Feast on creative and fresh fare as you gaze out over the lush green hills. Stand out dishes include:

  • Soft shell crab with Vietnamese mint, coriander, spicy eggplant and lime.
  • Scallops with apple, ramen shallot foam, Mooloolaba spanner crab, pepitas and apple caramel.
  • Slow cooked beef cheek with potato whip, seasonal greens and onion jam.
  • Miso braised lamb shoulder crepinette with charred eggplant, miso, roasted cabbage and pea tendrils.

Make sure you save room for dessert, with sweet treats like fresh honeycomb with fennel pollen, honey ice cream and honey puffed corn on offer.
