Start with a scenic drive from Toowoomba to Gus Beutel Lookout for stunning views over Ravensbourne National Park. Travel through the old timber town of Crows Nest to Maidenwell Trading Post for some welcome refreshments.
At Bunya Mountains National Park you’ll witness stunning rainforest canopies and ancient bunya pines. Follow a selection of walking tracks to explore nine kinds of rainforests, ancient plant species and native wildlife
Then head via Roma and Injune to Carnarvon Gorge National Park. See spectacular sandstone gorge vistas, ancient rainforests and well preserved Aboriginal rock art on a self-guided or guided walk. Explore the beautiful Moss Garden walk with its splendid waterfall backdrop, ferns and mosses at Carnarvon Gorge National Park.
From the gorge, head south to St George, Queensland’s inland fishing capital, and join a sunset cruise on the Balonne River. There’s 230 species of birdlife so you’re sure to spot some birds you’ve never seen before.
Call in to the historic Nindigully Pub on the banks of the Moonie River. See Girraween National Park’s intriguing balancing boulders, abundant birdlife and spectacular wildflowers in spring. Explore gentle or more adventurous bushwalks passing kangaroos grazing in open fields, cool waterfalls and rock pools.
You can enjoy a delicious seasonal dinner at The Barrelroom Restaurant in Ballandean, sample cider and apple pie at Suttons Apple Farm and visit Stanthorpe Cheese for hand-made farmhouse cheese.
When you’re ready to head home, travel via the Rose & Rodeo capital of Warwick, back to Toowoomba or Brisbane.
