The festival aims to capture Australia’s imagination by celebrating one of our favourite foods and highlighting the importance of buying 100 percent Australian pork.
Friday starts with a Pork Industry Forum in Kingaroy’s Town Hall followed by Sunpork Wine and Swine using local produce.
On Saturday Piggies in the Park, a special event for pre-primary and primary aged children will create lots of fun in Memorial Park. While the kids are having fun, their parents can participate in the Rail Trail Rasher’s Rush, a running and cycling event using the South Burnett Rail Trail.
In Glendon Street a BaconFest Food Market with an eat street style market, speciality pork food trucks, cooking demonstrations and the Sunpork Smoke-Off Competition will provide plenty of porky fun. This is a chance to see the broad range of products available in the South Burnett. It continues on Sunday.
Don’t miss the Miss BaconFest 2018 Pin-Up Pageant featuring Bettie Butcher, who is no stranger to Australian tattoo, car and rockabilly events. Contestants in the competition will need to focus on their vintage fashion style and grace to win the inaugural pin up pageant.
Newcastle-based ska band The Porkers, featuring Cherry Divine, will perform at the Town Hall from 7.30pm.
Sunday morning will see white table cloths and The Long Table Breakfast take over Glendon Street for a memorable navy beans and bacon-focused meal.
A Kevin Bacon Film Festival is showing at the Kingaroy Cinema until Sunday.
Kingaroy is home to Swickers, one of Australia’s largest pork processing plants drawing from the pig growing regions of the Darling Downs, which produces 56 percent of the total Queensland pig herd, and Wide Bay which produces 30 percent of the herd.
