The Good Design Awards is Australia’s peak design endorsement program, rewarding excellence in design, innovation and creativity.
The awards recognise fantastic design across industries and disciplines, from architectural design to new products and social innovation.
The 2017 winners were announced at a black-tie gala on June 8, at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Sydney. You can see the full list of entries and winners here.
Many of the winners and finalists this year hailed from Queensland, including:
The overall winner of the Good Design of the Year, Flood Resilient and Accessible Ferry Terminals for Brisbane, is a project dedicated to making Brisbane’s transport infrastructure more flood resilient. The result is a design that allows ferry operations to resume shortly after a flood.
TrinityTM ONE, an advanced coffee brewing method using a high-quality manual brewer. Developed in West End, the device is designed to precisely extract the unique flavours of speciality coffee.
Queensland is the Sunshine State, so a solar-powered BBQ makes perfect sense. The BBQ functions just like a plug-in electric BBQ, but only uses energy from the sun. The design is based on safety, longevity and reaching zero emissions.
Jet setters will love the new Qantas Brisbane International Lounge. The new space in Brisbane Airport includes areas to relax, work and dine before overseas flights. The design was inspired by the natural beauty of Queensland’s regions and boasts spectacular views across the tarmac.
